Gathering 2017 (non-reunion)
A get-together of aging Delta Birddoggers
3 February 2017
Sorry folks for the delay in getting some information together for you but we suffered a couple of set backs during the past month including the crash of my aging computer. Following is the latest information available for our Gathering this year. There will be additional bulletins regarding what will be happening and as that information is provided it will be sent to you.
First, the dates:
The Gathering will take place beginning on Thursday, September 21, 2017 and ending on Sunday, September 24, 2017.
Where will it be:
As mentioned previously, the Gathering will take place in San Antonio, Texas, the Alamo City.
A block of rooms has been arranged for us at the DoubleTree Hotel Downtown near the Mercado and a short stroll or shuttle ride to the famous River Walk. The registration code and telephone number will be sent to you in a few days. Accomodations will include free parking (normally a $15.00 charge) and a free breakfast buffet.
· Thursday, 21 September—A welcome gathering at the hotel. There will be a cash bar and some light snacks.
· Friday, 22 September—Early departure by convoy for the New Braunfels, Texas airport where we will meet with a few of our friends from the IBDA and their pet O-1 Birddogs. Lunch will be on your own at one of the great restaurants in this shopper’s paradise. We will convoy back to our hotel where everyone can make there own plans for an evening out or resting with the TV.
· Saturday, 23 September — A free day for you to take time to explore San Antonio. A visit to the Mercado or studies in history at the Alamo might be your choice. A leisurely walk and lunch at one of the fine restaurants on the River Walk might be in your plans or you can just gather with some of your comrades and relive those times of the “Daring Young Men in Their Flying Machines.” In the evening we will plan on assembling again to have dinner together at one of the local establishments. The venue has not yet been chosen because we need numbers to obtain seating. Just a reminder, all meals and beverages are “on your own” for the Gathering.
· Sunday, 24 September—At 0900 we will observe our traditional Memorial Service followed by goodbyes and fare-thee-wells.
That wraps it for now, be sure and mark the dates on your calendar and make transportation arrangements Hotel information for reservations will be comining your way in just a few days.
