Dedication Fort Rucker, Alabama Time has come to reduce the confusion that seems to be surrounding the dedication of the Birddog Memorial in the Memorial Park at the Fort Rucker Army Aviation Museum. The dedication had previously been planned as a part of the All Birddog Unit Reunion scheduled to take place in Panama City, Florida . . . That reunion has now been canceled with hopes to relocate it to the Fort Rucker area. The dedication of the Birddog Memorial is still planned for Friday, 9 October 2015 at 11:00 A.M. Arrangements have been made with Best Western Circle Hotel in Enterprise, Alabama to block twenty rooms for members of the Delta Birddog group wishing to attend the dedication as a group. Additional rooms may be added to this block prior to the cut-off date of 15 September 2015 should the need arise. We have been provided a special rate of $79.99 plus applicable taxes for rooms reserved before the cut-off date, any rooms reserved after that date will be at the regular rate. Use the reservation code Delta Birddog when making your reservations. There are ten single and ten doubles in the block but this may be adjusted as required. The rate includes the breakfast buffet and internet access. Hotel Telephone Number: 334-393-5248 Hotel Fax Number: 334-393-5253 Recommend you plan your arrival for mid-afternoon on 8 October so that you will have time to rest up for our informal dinner get-together in the evening. Dinner will be at a fine eating establishment on a pay-as-you-go basis, everyone is responsible for their own choice of dinner and the price thereof. On Friday, 9 October 2015, we will organize as a group for the trip to Fort Rucker and the Memorial Park where the formal dedication of the Birddog Unit Memorial will be held. I have been led to believe that actually there will be two ceremonies, the first of which will take place inside the Army Aviation Museum will be the official formal dedication of the Memorial and then there will be an additional ceremony which will take place at the site of the Memorial with a member of each unit reading the names of the fallen from that unit. Upon completion of the ceremonies at Fort Rucker we have been invited by the Friends of Army Aviation-Ozark to attend a barbecue and fly-in of Birddogs at Ozark Blackwell Airport. Once again, everything will be on a pay-as-you-go basis but it might be a last chance for some good South Alabama barbecue and that is good eatin'. There is a possibility that there will be as many as five Birddogs in attendance at Blackwell flown in by our friends from the IBDA and they may, dependent upon the conditions, be offering a few rides for folks that have forgotten the shear terror of being airborne in a tiny tin airplane. Now, two requests; First, if you plan on joining us for the event that has been fifty years in the making please take the time to send a short e-mail to me advising me of that fact and Second, make your hotel reservations so that you do not get left out in the cold. In the event you have forgotten my e-mail address again it is Shotgun-8A@hotmail.com or if it is absolutely necessary, call me at my home number in Humble, Texas (281) 973-9805 after 7:00 P.M. CDT. Your Humble, Texas Servant, Don Smith, Shotgun 8A
